CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Asagi
Species/Job/Class/Title: Human, Main Character?
Age: 17
Series:Makai Wars
Canon Point: Post-Disgaea 4's post game. I guess.
History: Not like I have to explain her backstory to a bunch of Disgaea mods
Personality: Asagi’s most noteworthy positive trait is her incredible determination. For years, she’s been told that she’ll one day become the main character of her own game and become famous for it…unfortunately for her, that was approximately seven years ago. So what has she done in all of that time? Simply put, she’s been making cameos in almost every single game released by Nippon Ichi ever since her first appearance in Makai Kingdom (US release date 2005). In these cameos, she reminds the protagonist and the players of how her role as main character is constantly dangled out of her reach, but even after all of this time, she continues to hold strong to her will and her vow to never give up and to fight until her game finally gets released.
Following this up is Asagi’s most noteworthy negative trait: her reckless abandon. She was once a cute and timid young girl, but after forced apprenticeship under Overlord Zetta, she became one of the cockiest and most destructive of Nippon Ichi’s characters. Sure it made her much more powerful, but it made her ego grow to match in size. Thanks to this, she’s convinced herself that if she were to ever one day defeat a game’s main character, she could take the title for herself and push her game that much closer to a release date. However, this has often lead to some very…disastrous results. The worst example was when the game’s protagonist chose to ignore her, she not only killed the final boss in one attack, she also destroyed the world just to keep his attention on her and provoke a fight. She lost, of course, which meant that the protagonist had to start the game all over again.
As is sometimes the case in those with huge egos, the layer underneath is something much more sensitive and weaker. For Asagi, this is her intense insecurity. Each defeat is followed by a very melodramatic speech about incompetency and how she’ll forever remain a side character, saying she’ll “grow old and gray and die” before she ever becomes a true main character. Her insecurities are only made worse by the fact that Nippon Ichi’s developers purposely deny her game’s release since so many find it amusing to watch Asagi struggle for it to happen…and she’s completely aware of this fact. At the very least, it justifies her constant desire to do better and keep up the fight until she wins. Does it justify blowing up worlds or harassing main characters? No, but she’ll do it anyway in her one-woman crusade to have her game released.
Like all of Nippon Ichi’s characters, Asagi is very much aware of the fourth wall and can refer to it casually in conversation. Unlike the other characters, she smashes it harsher and more often, her primary offenses include actually meeting the developers at Nippon Ichi and being able to hack into her own stats to make herself level 9999 (the highest level the game allows). This translates into her personality by demonstrating her lack of respect for boundaries; her insecurities make her feel like she’s trapped in a vicious cycle of cameo hell, so she’ll do just about anything she possibly can to break away from her restraints and do what she really wants to do.
But as mentioned before with her reckless abandon, this will oftentimes mean putting others at risk at first, she really won’t care. As such, she can sometimes be seen as unlikeable or too self-centered for her own good, but honestly...she is. Sometimes. Spending seven years chasing down a promise means most of the time, she doesn’t stop to catch her breath and appreciate what she already has: more appearances than almost any other character, more popularity than almost any other character and more importantly, respect. Others have noted how harshly she gets beaten down sometimes (especially when getting one-hit killed with an attack that does 2 billion damage), but even with times at their worst and the entire world against her, she’ll still stand back up and fight for what she believes in, gaining a bit more wisdom each time. So could she make friends with others? Probably. They just have to keep her in line and kick her ass when needed because at the end of the day, Asagi's a lonely, homesick girl trying to find a place where she belongs.
Abilities: Guns. Lots and lots of guns. Particularly a pair of pistols that she can fire at inhuman speeds. She has an S rank in guns, so of course she's going to exploit the hell out of that. In addition to her magic bullets, she may have triple dipped into the Disgaea's gun skills, particularly 2, 3, and 4.
Aside from her pistols, Asagi also wields a large energy cannon bazooka thing as well as a large ball and chain frequently used for kicking up tornadoes or ricocheting her bullets. And exploding, apparently. It can be safely assumed that training under Zetta gave her the strength to wield such oversized weaponry with ease. Or because it's Disgaea and oversized weaponry is the norm. Whatever works.
And as the previous video points out, Asagi is in possession of this whale of a spaceship called the Yoshitsuna. It's an incredibly destructive and powerful battleship revered by many to be the most devastating battleship in the cosmos. I mean Hell, if Baal used it before, how could it not be legendary? Asagi swiped this from Zetta shortly before her cameo in Soul Nomad. While she mainly uses it for its uber destructive laser cannon, it's comfortable enough for her to live in and travel across the multiverse with. Unless mods say otherwise, it'll strictly be docked in orbit and unable to take anyone home until she is dropped/ragequits and leaves the game.

Another cameo, another chance. That's what Asagi told herself each time she jumped into the next Nippon Ichi title. That's what kept her stable as she fought each protagonist and their accompanying allies and lost humiliatingly. Sure, each game had their variants even a few different mechanics to mess around with, but it was always the same: another failed attempt to bring Makai Wars it grandiose release. Sure, some of the cameos were actually really nice, with Rozalin inspiring her, Valvatorez comforting her pain and even having a side story in Prinny 2! That was the closest she came to being the main character again and despite the Asagi Wars complicating matters, it was nice, for as long as it lasted.
But all cameos come to an end. The temporary breaks from floating through the multiverse are nice, but she always has to pack up her stuff and leave before she can get too comfortable, half because the NIS developers demanded another cameo and half because she still had a war to fight. Plopping herself on her bed, Asagi stared up at the ceiling, as she always did after returning from each cameo. For all the shame of popping into each game with bombastic schemes that deflate with each defeat, she liked the camaraderie that always followed her losses. The protagonists, the supporting characters, other cameo characters and even the generics were fun to be around. Her gun skills usually meant she saw lots of post-game use, which was always where the real fun of the Nippon Ichi games are...but it still wasn't enough for her. They brought the urge down, but the cameos couldn't grant her one thing that really mattered most to her: plot relevance.
She remembered every scenario of Makai Wars and how great it felt to be not just the center of attention, but to feel significant. She had her most reliable companion that all protagonists have, an awesome hub for all manner of relaxing between battles and hell, she was the one recruiting cameo characters! But with no release of the game, she couldn't share any of that info with anyone. Some of the details were starting to slip her mind, but that's why she took to writing them all down in various journals: she couldn't allow herself to forget her game. Not a single part of it. That's why she had to do her damnedest in each appearance, putting on a cocky smirk each time and doing whatever deed had to be done...because if she drops the torch, who's going to pick it up?
Anything Else? So once she kills Laharl, she'll get to be head NPC of the game, right? That's like being the main character. Also if she's allowed to keep the Yoshitsuna, will she be allowed to sleep in it and all that?
